A four-part study of the inward and outward characteristics of the Prophet Muhammad from his lineage to his names to his physical stature to his noble attributes, taking from the text of the late scholar Shaykh Yusuf al-Nabahani, Wasa'il al-Wusul ila Shama'il al-Rasul (“The Means of Arrival to the Characteristics of the Messenger”). Studying the characteristics of the Messenger of Allah fills one's heart with love for him and inspires one to follow his great example.

 Ustadh Yahya Rhodus was born and raised in America's midwest. At the age of 19 he became Muslim in the San Francisco Bay Area and began studying with Shaykh Hamza Yusuf and distinguished scholars visiting from Mauritania, Shaykh Khatry & Shaykh Abdullah Ould Ahmadna. In 1998, he left for Mauritania to further his studies of the Islamic sciences. There he spent over two years sitting with some of Mauritania's great scholars, including Shaykh Murabit al-Hajj, one the great scholars of our age. In 2000, he moved to Tarim, Yemen to continue his studies at the prestigious Dar al-Mustafa, where he studied with renowned scholars Habib 'Ali al-Jifry, Habib 'Umar bin Hafiz, and other local scholars. In late 2005, he returned from his studies overseas and now serves as a full-time teacher at Zaytuna Institute. |
It was a great honor and pleasure to be able to learn under Shaykh Salek bin Siddina. The Shaykh is unique in his traditional study of Islam for over 16 years in the desserts of Mauritania, and it is a miracle that we can access the same sacred knowledge over the internet.
The class itself was extremely beneficial and systematic in its approach to the prayer, inspiring the student from every angle to appreciate what most of us unfortunately find to be an outward ritual. What I found to be the most beneficial though, is when the Shaykh departs from the text to deliver insightful wisdom on our struggles in this day and age.
