A course for those wishing to deepen their understanding and implementation of a fulfilling Islamic family life. Topics covered include aspects of Islamic family law as they relate to the domestic affairs, relevant aspects of the Prophetic biography, and practical advice for newlyweds that are based on a “family-oriented” reading of The Aphorisms (Hikam) of Ibn ‘Ata-Allah as-Sakandari.
 Imam Zaid Shakir is amongst the most respected and influential Islamic scholars in the West. As an American Muslim who came of age during the civil rights struggles, he has brought both sensitivity about race and poverty issues and scholarly discipline to his faith-based work. Born in Berkeley, California, he accepted Islam in 1977 while serving in the United States Air Force. He obtained a BA with honors in International Relations at American University in Washington D.C. and later earned his MA in Political Science at Rutgers University. It was a great honor and pleasure to be able to learn under Shaykh Salek bin Siddina. The Shaykh is unique in his traditional study of Islam for over 16 years in the desserts of Mauritania, and it is a miracle that we can access the same sacred knowledge over the internet.
The class itself was extremely beneficial and systematic in its approach to the prayer, inspiring the student from every angle to appreciate what most of us unfortunately find to be an outward ritual. What I found to be the most beneficial though, is when the Shaykh departs from the text to deliver insightful wisdom on our struggles in this day and age.
